Switching your number to another network might feel like navigating through Dante's circles of hell. Along the way, you'll encounter a disgruntled former operator, friends scarred by previous migrations, and a family fervently praying for your journey's success, lighting candles on the altar of your efforts 🕯️. Have courage! Allow us, like Virgil, to tenderly guide you through this process. We guarantee a happy ending. 🙂
Ah, switching numbers doesn't sound pleasant…
Once upon a time, transferring your phone number to another network was a torturous or impossible process. This was because your phone number was tied to a specific mobile operator who guarded their customer base like Cerberus guarded the gates of Hades. Terminating your contract meant opening a completely new chapter in your life and getting a new phone number.
Later, transferring your phone number became possible, but the whole process involved several stages. First, you had to visit your new operator, then the one you were leaving, and then appear at the new one again. There was no end to the shuffling of documents, much like the vast sea knows no horizon!
No more! For some time now, we've been able to juggle numbers between operators without any qualms!
What does switching your number to another network look like?
Switching your number to another network can currently be done in two ways.
The first can be called traditional and involves visiting the mobile operator you've chosen as your new one. You'll receive a document authorizing the operator to transfer your number to them. To do this, you only need your ID card. It will be a bit more complicated if a phone number assignment is required. But you can read about that in our other post.
There's also an even faster and more convenient way to switch your phone number: filling out an online form, which will minimize the necessary formalities to an absolute minimum. Then, you'll have to wait for a courier who will deliver the appropriate documents and SIM card. You can also opt for downloading an eSIM. As you can see, in this version of events too, the new operator handles the migration process, making it very convenient for you.
Commercial break: if you want to become a Viking, you'll also find such an online option with us 🥳.
How long does it take to switch your number to another network?
Since you now know how to switch your number, the cherry on top will be the information that the entire procedure shouldn't take longer than 24 hours from the date you've chosen as your number transfer date. In practice, it often happens instantly or takes a maximum of a few hours. However, you need to remember one crucially important matter! Your contract with the old operator!
Switching numbers and contract duration — ATTENTION!
Switching your number to another operator during your contract is possible, but you need to be careful, as each operator has a different approach. In fact, it's best to check yourself when your contract with the old provider ends. Then, the start date for actions with the new operator will be the following day.
Some operators don't wait for the contract to expire and theoretically start providing services earlier. In such cases, you might end up paying two bills instead of one – for example, in the last month of your old contract.
It's worth remembering that as long as your old contract is active, the new operator cannot practically provide you with their services.
Subscription, mix, or prepaid? It doesn't matter!
As you make life decisions, you might start wondering if number migration is equally possible for subscription contracts, as well as for prepaid or hybrid offers. If you've been contemplating becoming a Viking, you have another argument to join the crew! We offer migration to us from any type of contract!
The moment you fill out the online form on our website or call our help desk and go through the procedure, we'll notify your old operator that we're bringing you aboard and freeing you from the storms of other providers once and for all. We'll grab the oars, handle the formalities, and you'll wait for the physical SIM card or eSIM to download to your phone. Our contract will start the moment your old one expires. 🙂
And finally
And why is it worth sticking with your old number in the first place? What benefits does it offer?
- Convenience and constant access: A stable phone number allows friends, family, and clients to easily contact you without having to track number changes, and you don't have to migrate data to a new phone.
- Avoiding confusion: Frequent phone number changes can lead to chaos and loss of contact with important people and institutions who won't be up-to-date with the new number.
- Security and privacy: Having one number allows you to better control who has access to it, increasing the level of security and privacy.
- Lasting connections: Many services, such as banking, social media, and various apps, require a phone number for identity verification. A stable number makes managing these accounts easier.
- Contact history: Keeping your number means easy searching through call history, messages, and contacts, which can be useful in both personal and professional life.
- Time saving: Not having to notify everyone about a number change saves time and nerves.
And now everything is as clear as Odin's lightning, right 🤘?
