When in mid-March Odin ordered all units back to their home ports ⚓ (aka home office), we naturally answered the call. We might have temporarily stopped being mobile, but we were certainly not short on mobilization! Then the days started to blend into weeks, and weeks into a month. And that's when it appeared. The f***er. 🤬 But we decided not to let it get us down and did something only the bravest Vikings are capable of: we started singing. 🎤 And poof, Virusong was born!
At first, it was even fun. Comfortable sweatpants, waking up five minutes before starting work. Video calls with the crew, featuring unawares partners making guest appearances, concerts of pots and pans banging on tabletops somewhere off-camera, cats, children, and couriers popping up out of nowhere, and sparrows interrupting conversations. 🐦 But we worked for you as usual, because we've always been fully online anyway. Our Help Desk ☎️ worked remotely, we organized the entire Viking Support program 🆘 remotely, and we even recruited new people to our crew! 👶
Even the biggest introverts started pretending to themselves that the trash bag was already full...
But after a few weeks, a shadow fell upon us, a shadow so dark that a sharp fog would seem like a small... thing. 🙃 Here it came, the f***er. It hunted every Viking and every Viqueen individually, and probably others who were isolating at home. We started missing the sun, walks, people, our Headquarters – everything that made up the normality we undervalued before the times of the virus. Even the biggest introverts started pretending to themselves that the trash bag was already full, just to be able to go out for a moment to take it out. The tension was building. ⚡⚡⚡
But we wouldn't be Vikings if we didn't stand up to it! 💪 We decided to let off some steam in our own style – to say out loud what was pissing us off about this whole quarantine. And, well, nothing suits a protest song like sea shanties… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Then it just flowed, rhymes driven by frustration came naturally, and voices merged into one f***ing choir. 🎶 And you know what? It turned out that a lot of people felt the same way.

Together with a whole bunch of our Vikings and Viqueens, who added more verses, played them, and sang them (even though Adam Sztaba wasn't conducting us :(), we created Virusong, in which we talk about the dark side of life in quarantine. 🏠 And thanks to this, we have the strength to not break its rules, because the f***er, laughed at by many, fled to bother someone else!
As long as the epidemic lasts, let the song last too. Want to add your two cents to this story? As the British say – we're all 👂!
