Taxes, PIT, deadlines, tax office 😫. This is probably not a set of your favorite Google search terms, but a sad necessity related to settling your accounts with the taxman. Let this grim collection be brightened by the information that when filing your taxes, you can take advantage of a deduction for internet, which amounts to as much as 1500 PLN. Let's get to it! 💪
Internet Deduction: Who Can Benefit?
Every internet user can benefit from the deduction. Men can, women can too. 🥳 What's more, you can do it even twice and in two consecutive tax years. Remember to maintain continuity. This is a necessary condition for using the internet deduction. And unfortunately, if you have already used this option in the past, the internet deduction is no longer for you.
Now, let's get a bit more specific. 🤝 The internet deduction is available to everyone who settles their accounts with the tax office using the following forms:
- PIT-28 (individuals settling with a lump sum tax on registered income),
- PIT-36 (using the tax scale) and
- PIT-37 (individuals who do not conduct business activities).
How to Use the Internet Deduction?
To do this, you must, of course, document all expenses incurred in the previous year. The invoices must include the buyer's details (i.e., yours), identifying the service provider and the type of service, as well as the amount you paid. It doesn't matter if you used the internet on a meadow, while traveling, at home, or in your private anti-atomic bunker (you probably wanted to check if there's coverage 😃).
The internet deduction also applies to services such as mobile internet on your phone or purchasing TV/internet packages from operators. This naturally refers to the part of the fee related to the internet. In such a case, you should ensure that the invoice specifies how much was paid for the internet. Didn't use any of the above solutions, but happened to use internet café services? 🖥️ You can deduct these expenses from your income for the given tax year.
How Much is the Internet Deduction?
The maximum amount you can deduct from your income for using the internet is 760 PLN. What does this mean? If you spent less than 760 PLN on the internet, you enter that amount on the form. However, if you spent more than 760 PLN on the internet, you must enter 760 PLN, as the law simply does not allow for a higher deduction. However, there is a way to double this amount. But first, you must meet one essential condition and tie the knot. 👰 If the expense is incurred by spouses, each of them is entitled to their own limit – 760 PLN each. In this case, the maximum internet deduction will be 1520 PLN per year (for two consecutive years).
How to Fill Out Documents for the Internet Deduction?
Finally, it's worth knowing where to enter the appropriate numbers to find the deducted amount in your account later. 🔢 To do this, you need to fill out the PIT/0 form. You enter the amount deducted from your income in section B, item 31 (if you are filing as a taxpayer) or item 32 (if you are filing as a spouse). The deadline for submitting PIT forms to tax offices is at the beginning of May each year. You may have to wait up to 45 days for the refund. It's definitely worth being patient. 👼
