It seems there are almost as many ways to maintain good battery life on a smartphone as there are urban legends. Which, of course, means a significant portion of them are untrue or based on old beliefs carried over from previous generations of phones. So, how should you charge your phone correctly?
We assume that most of the advice below might seem obvious, but it's absolutely fundamental when it comes to safety and enjoying your battery for a reasonably long and efficient time. What should you keep in mind?
1. Use original accessories
Naturally, it's not that every replacement immediately lands on the blacklist, as there are many quality alternatives. In any case, an original charger and cable are (usually) a guarantee of avoiding complications with the most basic element of smartphone charging. A cheaper replacement might do more harm in the long run, and consequently, cost you more out of pocket than the price difference between the original and the replacement. We don't need to mention not using damaged chargers and cables, right? Well, now you know ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
2. Practice moderation
And here we get to the urban legend stage. Many harmful habits have become common beliefs, supposedly ensuring long battery life. What you should definitely get out of your head is:
- "Formatting" the battery, meaning draining it completely or waiting until the critical point of a few percent charge,
- Insistently charging to a full percentage – the opposite of the above, and also not recommended for current batteries.
3. Don't charge your phone after dark
This is one of those habits that seems obvious – after a full day's marathon, the phone gets plugged in. However, 6-8 hours (assuming that's how much sleep you get on average) of being connected to the power outlet is in no way healthy for your device, because firstly, it will reach the aforementioned upper charging limit during that time. Secondly, the battery remains under voltage, and a slight drop in charge causes the phone to go back to 100% again.
Do you have any of your own learned methods for keeping your battery in good condition? Is there anything else we should mention? Which phone model has proven indestructible for you when it comes to battery life?
