There is little room in the Viking code for hair gel and gold shoes. Hence the often-asked question: between battles, conquests, and expeditions, will there be time for "kicking a ball" and watching matches? For all those not convinced by Iceland's victory over England, we have a few more examples.
Fight
Every Viking is as tough as an Icelandic fjord and only accepts their own version of the truth. The days when all conflicts could be settled by fire and iron are long gone. So how do you defeat someone? On the pitch! The sting of lost goals hurts more than bruises.
Team
Conquests and raids are a team sport, just like football. Joint preparations, joint fight, joint victory. Even though Iceland has 13 times fewer inhabitants than registered footballers in England, their team crushed the English constellation of stars. And although a Viking might seem like a loner, they will always find a companion for their sword and for the pitch.
Tactics
Wars and battles are not just about swinging swords and shooting blindly. Do you want to win? Find a way. Just like in football. Many of the greatest military strategists would be football coaches today. Can you imagine Pazdan being responsible for scoring goals for our national team, and not Milik? Well… perhaps certain circumstances suggest that it's a good idea, but likely only in the short term.
These are just a few examples, but they should clear up your doubts about whether you can be a Viking and a football fan at the same time. You can, and even must. So iron your jerseys, bring out the flags, hide the vuvuzelas (nobody likes them), and warm up your throats. Today, together with our team, we're heading for Portugal!
