How to speed up internet on your phone? Forcing LTE
When we want to use the internet on our phone, we have two options. The first is cellular data and data packages from our operator. The second is connecting to any Wi-Fi network. In theory, we shouldn't have any internet problems. In practice, almost all of us use smartphones that provide LTE connectivity – this is usually enough for us on a daily basis.
However, there are times when we have slow internet on our phone – the speed drastically drops, and content takes ages to load. What can we do then? How to speed up mobile internet? It's worth forcing a 4G/LTE connection in the settings. Perhaps your smartphone is only automatically receiving a 3G/2G signal, and in such a situation, you can't expect fast data transfer. Forcing a 4G/LTE connection wherever possible should solve the problem of slow internet. To do this, simply go to cellular network settings, and then to the "Preferred network type" tab. There you will find the option to force 4G/LTE network.
Apps and widgets and slow internet on your phone
Data downloaded in the background by applications, overlays, and widgets can also affect internet speed. Smartphones often have a lot of software we don't even use. It's worth uninstalling unnecessary apps and widgets, and then enabling the data saving function. This can speed up your phone's internet and save gigabytes from your data package. Data saving has one key drawback – notifications for messages from messengers (e.g., Messenger, WhatsApp) and emails may arrive with a delay.
Regardless of how many apps and games we have installed, there comes a moment when they update in the background. We then lose cellular data transfer. We may also notice that the internet on our phone becomes slower, especially when we browse a lot of content (photos, videos) during updates. How to change this? Go to the Play Store and select the "Update only over Wi-Fi" option. From now on, app updates will not use your cellular data.
Some apps consume a lot of data, not just in the background. If social media heavily strain your mobile internet, you can use the Lite versions of apps. In the Play Store, you'll find Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite, and Twitter Lite, among others.
There are also browsers. Chrome is a web browser that we often use on Android smartphones. Syncing your Google account and browser data across all devices is a useful option. It's worth knowing that Chrome can save data – just use the simplified version. According to Google, it uses up to 60% less data. Slow-loading pages will be displayed in a simplified version and only important content will load. Opera also has a data-saving mode, among others.
Maybe it's time for 5G?
Fast internet on your phone is a must have these days. What about the 5G network option on smartphones? This topic is appearing more and more often in advertisements, and the number of devices with 5G modules is growing. You can easily find something for yourself, even among mid-range options. It's worth remembering that 5G coverage mainly extends to large cities in Poland and depends on the operator and the transmitters used.
