Vikings, please pay attention! The draft bill on anti-terrorist activities has been passed in the Sejm. Everything indicates that the new regulations will soon come into force, which means changes for our community.
For both us and you, the most important change resulting from the new Anti-Terrorist Activities Act is the mandatory registration of SIM cards. Current and future Vikings should prepare for new rules regarding the use of pre-paid SIM cards.
What do Mobile Vikings users need to be prepared for?
The act provides for the obligation for current and future users of pre-paid SIM cards to provide us with their personal data – first name, last name, and PESEL number (in the case of individuals without a PESEL number – the name, series, and number of the identity document). For a subscriber who is not an individual: the name, REGON, NIP or KRS number, or business registration number, or other appropriate register.
New users will have to provide the necessary data when purchasing a SIM card from July 1, 2016. Current users will have time to provide their data until February 1, 2017. If they do not do so within the specified period, we will be obliged to deactivate the card.
The data can be provided in person and, more importantly, electronically. Only after personal verification will the SIM card be ready for telecommunication use, i.e., for using the internet, sending SMS messages, or making calls.
Why these changes?
SIM card registration is intended to be one of the steps in the fight against terrorism. The intention is that it will help security services detect and locate potential threats more easily. Similar regulations are in force in many European countries, such as Germany, Norway, or the Netherlands.
