The Office of Electronic Communications presented a report with the results of mobile telephony service quality research. The presented results indicate that as a country, we are among the European leaders, although we still have a lot to do. What does the published report mean for Vikings?
The results of mobile telephony service quality research always generate a lot of excitement. Firstly, because phones have long since become a permanent fixture in our lives, and our daily convenience depends on their performance standards. Secondly, we like to test and compare operators, looking for the best one. In the report published by the Office of Electronic Communications, it is worth paying attention to what directly affects the quality of telephony usage for Vikings.
In the research conducted in December 2015 throughout the country, four operators participated – P4 Sp. z o.o., Polkomtel Sp. z o.o., Orange Polska S.A., T-Mobile Polska S.A.
The two main areas of the research conducted were voice service standards and internet access quality. The majority, as much as 95% of phone calls, were made using UMTS technology, while for data transmission, LTE was the dominant technology (approximately 83% of connections). Such a high level of utilization of the latest technologies indicates that as consumers, we have access to the highest standard of services and the opportunity to choose only from good operators.
The success rate of voice calls among all operators was rated very highly – an average of 99%. Indicators of dropped calls, call setup times, and speech quality are at a very satisfactory level. This means that each of us, regardless of the telecommunications provider chosen, can enjoy high-quality voice calls.
In terms of internet connection standards, there is significantly greater differentiation among operators. The Plus network took the leading position, boasting the highest data transmission speed index (both DL – 25.19 Mb/s and UL – 17.71 Mb/s). Overall results for all operators in this area are optimistic, though not as good as in the case of voice calls. It is certain that telecommunication companies will focus on the development of internet services in the near future.

Creating a fully objective ranking in the field of mobile telephony is difficult. It is hard to find a measurement methodology that would be fair and satisfactory for all operators. Therefore, it is important to carefully follow the results of such research, as they indicate certain trends and illustrate the overall market situation. However, it is always worth looking at the calculated indicators with a degree of detachment and confronting them, for example, with the legislative or market conditions in which individual operators operate.
